Resurrection Sunday means more to me than a holiday, more than dressing up, more than a church service, and more than a family dinner.
Resurrection Sunday, to me, is about hope when things look hopeless, life when things feel dead, and victory when it looked like defeat had won.
Most people know the basic story. Jesus lived a perfect life. He loved people that others ignored. He forgave people that others judged. He challenged systems that were broken. And because of that, the religious and political leaders of the time didn’t like Him. Eventually, He was sentenced to death by crucifixion.
They thought the story was over.
But three days later, everything changed.
The women went to the tomb early in the morning, expecting to find Jesus’ body, but instead the stone was rolled away and the tomb was empty. The angels asked them a question that still speaks today:
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen.” – Luke 24:1-8
That moment changed everything. Not just then, but now. Not just for them, but for us.
Why The Resurrection Matters To Me Personally
Resurrection Sunday is not just about what happened to Jesus. It’s about what happens to us.
Because the resurrection is proof that dead things can live again.
Broken things can be restored.
Lost people can be found.
And hopeless situations are never really hopeless.
If you’ve followed my story, then you know why this means so much to me.
I’ve seen things in my life that looked dead:
Relationships
Opportunities
My reputation
My future
My peace
My identity
My hope
There were seasons of my life where it felt like a stone had been rolled in front of my future and everything I thought my life would be was buried behind it.
But Resurrection Sunday reminds me of something very important:
God is still in the business of rolling stones away.
The Resurrection Is Not Just A Story — It’s A Promise
Jesus rising from the dead wasn’t just a historical event.
It was the completion of the work He came to do. It proved who He said He was. But more importantly, it showed us what is possible with God.
The resurrection means:
Failure is not final
Pain is not pointless
Loss is not the end
Your past does not get the final say
Your worst decision does not define your life
Your story is not over
The resurrection means new life is always possible.
Not just after we die.
New life right now.
New thinking.
New direction.
New peace.
New purpose.
What Resurrection Sunday Means To Me Today
Resurrection Sunday means:
I don’t have to live defined by my past
I don’t have to stay stuck in grief
I don’t have to stay stuck in shame
I don’t have to stay stuck in fear
I don’t have to stay stuck in addiction
I don’t have to stay stuck in anxiety
I don’t have to stay stuck in regret
Because the same power that rolled that stone away is the same power that can roll the stone away from anything in my life.
Resurrection Sunday reminds me that God specializes in turning the worst day of your life into the beginning of your purpose.
The cross looked like defeat.
The tomb looked like the end.
But Sunday proved that God was working the whole time.
And that’s what Resurrection Sunday means to me.
It means even when I can’t see what God is doing, He is still working.
Even when life looks buried, He is still bringing life.
Even when everything looks over, He is just getting started.
