Everybody Believes in Second Chances… Until They’re Asked to Give One

This morning I started my day the way I always do — working out. Moving my body. Clearing my mind. Grounding myself before stepping into whatever the day holds.
And today, what the day holds is a call to action.
Right now, I am trying to help a homeless family stay in a hotel long enough to secure a bed space at a local shelter. They are on the waitlist. They are doing what they’re supposed to do. They are waiting for their opportunity.
But waiting doesn’t mean the needs stop coming.
I put a post on Facebook asking for help to cover five nights in a hotel so this family wouldn’t be back on the street while they wait. As of this morning, four nights have been covered.
Four.
That means people showed up.
And not always the people I expected.
What I witnessed last night humbled me. People stepped forward quietly. Generously. Without fanfare. I don’t know their income levels. I don’t know their financial pressures. But I know this — somewhere along their journey, someone helped them. And instead of forgetting that, they turned their gratitude into action.
That matters.
Many people believe in second chances… until they’re asked to give one. And this isn’t judgment. It’s reflection.
When someone is in crisis, the questions often start lining up:
Do they deserve it?
Are they working?
Are they an addict?
What’s their background?
But here’s the truth: people don’t just need second chances.
They need third chances.
Fourth chances.
Fifth chances.
Sixth chances.
I am doing outstanding in my life today. I’m stable. I’m focused. I’m purposeful. But I can tell you without hesitation — I have had more chances than six. And yes, there were people who gave up on me along the way.
And I’m not angry about that.
Sometimes people reach their limit. Sometimes boundaries are necessary. I understand that.
But I also remember the ones who didn’t give up.
I remember the ones who believed in me when it wasn’t convenient. When it wasn’t easy. When it wasn’t guaranteed to “work.”
That’s what this moment is about. Gratitude is not just a feeling. It’s a responsibility.
If you are stable right now…
If you slept in a bed last night…
If your children are safe…
If your biggest stressor today is what to wear or what to order online…
You are blessed beyond measure.
And I say that with love.
I know how easy it is to scroll Amazon. Temu. Shein. Click. Swipe. Add to cart. Maybe it’s $20. Maybe it’s $30. Maybe it’s $40 for something we don’t even need.
But what if that same $30 meant one more night of safety for a family trying to get back on their feet?
What if your gratitude became someone else’s bridge?
And if you genuinely cannot give financially — I understand that too.
But we all have five minutes.
Five minutes to pray.
Five minutes to send encouragement.
Five minutes to say, “Who do I need to lift up?”
Because second chances aren’t abstract ideas. They’re real. They’re tangible. They cost something.
Right now, I need one more night covered.
One more night keeps this family sheltered while they wait for their bed space to open.
If you feel led to help, reach out to me directly. I will provide the details.
If you can’t give financially, pray. Share this post. Send encouragement. Be part of the solution.
Let’s not just believe in second chances.
Let’s fund them.
Let’s pray for them.
Let’s be them for someone else.
Because somewhere in your story — someone did it for you.
And now it’s our turn.
