Complain and Remain: The choice is yours!

Let me say this gently—but truthfully: You cannot complain your way into a better life.

At some point on this journey, maturity steps in and says, “Man, stop complaining, stop making excuses, and start making choices that actually move you forward.” Real growth happens when you stop blaming everything around you and start acknowledging that the life you’re living today is a result of the choices you made yesterday.

Complaining doesn’t heal the pain, solve the problem, or create the breakthrough. It’s a vain explanation of what hurts—without gaining relief. Every time I sat in a season complaining about what wasn’t working, I stayed exactly where I was—stuck, drained, frustrated.

Complaining never produces change—it only prolongs the problem. But when I shifted from complaining to choosing—everything changed. When I stopped saying, “Why does this keep happening to me?” and instead asked, “What can I do about it?” I stepped into an entirely different version of myself.

Here’s a few of my favorite quotes that I personally use to keep my mind focused on moving forward without wasting energy on complaining.

Complaining Keeps You Stagnant — Action Sets You Free

• “If you took one-tenth the energy you put into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, you'd be surprised by how well things can work out.” — Randy Pausch

• “Complaining about a problem without posing a solution is called whining.” — Teddy Roosevelt

• “Complaining is silly. Either act or forget.” — Stefan Sagmeister

• “You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.” — Shirley Chisholm

Complaining Kills Gratitude — Gratitude Changes Everything

• “I was complaining that I had no shoes till I met a man who had no feet.” — Benjamin Franklin

• “To complain is always nonacceptance of what is.” — Eckhart Tolle

• “Any time we spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won't make us happier.” — Randy Pausch

• “Be grateful for what you have and stop complaining.” — Zig Ziglar

Complaining Feels Easy — Strength Takes Self-Control

• “Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain—and most fools do.” — Dale Carnegie

• “Never complain. Never explain.” — Katharine Hepburn

Here’s a few Reflection Questions for you

• What situation in my life do I complain about most, and what fear is hiding underneath that complaint?

• How would my life improve if I redirected my complaining energy into problem-solving energy?

• What blessings am I overlooking because I’m focused on what’s wrong instead of what’s right?

• In what area am I waiting for someone else to fix something I have the power to change?

• How does complaining make me feel—and how does gratitude make me feel in comparison?

• What choice can I make today that my future self will thank me for?

Here’s my Prayer for You!

Heavenly Father,

I lift up the person reading this right now. You know their heart, their struggles, their private battles, and every place where frustration has tried to settle in. Lord, I ask that You gently remind them that they don’t have to face any of this alone. Father, when their mind wants to complain, help them choose gratitude. When their emotions want to give up, strengthen them with Your peace. When life feels heavy, steady their steps and whisper courage into their spirit. Teach them to see challenges not as dead ends, but as opportunities for growth. Help them release every complaint and pick up confidence, clarity, and conviction. Surround them with Your presence so powerfully that complaining loses its grip and hope rises again inside them.

Lord, guide their choices, renew their thoughts, and empower them to take action that aligns with the purpose You’ve placed within them. Remind them that they were created with intention, designed with purpose, and equipped with everything they need to overcome. Let today be the day they shift from remaining stuck to walking boldly into change. Cover them. Strengthen them. Lead them. And let Your joy be their anchor.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
